Sitting here at work today and the question came up on how to attach multiple files to a single list item, such as a Task List. Most people know about the “Upload Multiple Documents” option in document libraries. This option isn’t there with list items.
What you can do is attach files individually. Yup, you can keep attaching as many files (reasonably) until your finger gets sore.
- Click Attach File from the ribbon
- Select first file you want attached
- Repeat
The files will now be listed in the “Attachment” section of your list item properties. Dont forget to Enable attachments in the Advance Setting of the list if you havent already.

If you set up a Datasheet View and click on the Attachments cell, it opens a dialog box that allows you to select and attach multiple files as one operation. Too bad they didn’t implement the same functionality in standard views.
Tanks for the tip. I never tried it in the data sheet view.
how many files can you attach?
You shouldn’t have a limit. Are you reaching a ceiling?
Thank you for this advice. I followed it and was able to attach multiple files onto the list item.
